Lucifer Morningstar, bored from his sulking life in hell, comes to live in Los Angeles. While there, he helps humanity with its miseries through his experience and telepathic abilities to bring people's deepest desires and thoughts out of them. While meeting with a Detective in his nightclub (Lux), a shootout involving him and the Detective leads him to become a LAPD consultant who tries to punish people for their crimes through law and justice.

On 6/6/2019 Netflix announced that it renewed Lucifer for the fifth and final season. Co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich
revealed season five will have ten episodes. On July 26, Neflix announced six more hours would be added, for a total of 16 episodes in season 5. Modrovich tweeted that the love of the fans helped to "supersize" the season. See more
The pilot establishes that Lux is located in the same building as the El Capitan Theater in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, but subsequent episodes use aerial establishing shots of the Sunset Tower Hotel over two miles away on Sunset Boulevard for Lucifer's penthouse, which is supposedly in the same building as Lux.
