There are 3 different versions. The theatrical version, the First Cut and the Clerks X-edition.
Kevin Smith was on a very limited budget for the film, so being that black and white cameras were cheaper to buy than color cameras, the film was shot in black and white on 16mm film with natural light. It was not done for artistic purposes, despite popular belief. It was solely due to the extremely low budget.

They are indeed! RST Video, where Kevin Smith & Scott Mosier actually edited the film, has long since closed. However, Quick Stop is still there. The address is in the Trivia section for this film.
