Trivia

London Weekend Television supremo Michael Grade's original inspiration for the series was the 1937 book "The Education of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N" by Leo Rosten, set in a New York night class for English learners. He was also responsible for cancelling the show, when he felt it had fulfilled all the potential comedy from the situation. See more »

It just gets funnier
24 July 1999 | by solo-11See all my reviews

Never a dull moment. The international students are hilarious in the way they express themselves in English! I am not a native English speaker, so I can identify with some of their difficulties.

Some racist jokes occasionally, but besides being funny, they make one realise how hostile a few English-speakers can be toward foreigners who are trying hard to master the language.
