Courtney B. Vance Boards Jordan Peele’s HBO Series ‘Lovecraft Country’
HBO added a trio of new cast members — Courtney B. Vance, Elizabeth Debicki abd Aunjanue Ellis — to “Lovecraft Country,” its upcoming drama from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.

The three will star opposite Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Jonathan Majors and Wunmi Mosaku.

Lovecraft Country,” which is based on the 2016 novel from Matt Ruff, follows Atticus Black as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback, according to the series’ description.

Apple Orders ‘Little America’ Immigrant Anthology Series From ‘The Big Sick’ Writers, Lee Eisenberg & Alan Yang
Apple has picked up to series Little America, a half-hour anthology series from Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the Oscar-nominated writers of indie hit The Big Sick, Smilf executive producer Lee Eisenberg, Master of None co-creator/executive producer Alan Yang and Universal Television.

Written by Eisenberg, who will serve as showrunner, Nanjiani and Gordon, Little America is inspired by the true stories featured in Epic Magazine and described on the site as “a small, collective portrait of America’s immigrants — and thereby a portrait of America itself.” The TV series will go beyond the headlines to look at the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring and unexpected lives of immigrants in America, at a time when their stories are more relevant than ever.

Nanjiani and Yang executive produce alongside Eisenberg and Gordon. Joshuah Bearman and Joshua Davis will executive produce for Epic Magazine; Arthur Spector will co-executive produce.

‘Killing Eve’ and ‘The Americans’ Lead TCA Awards Nominations
BBC America’s “Killing Eve” crashed the TCA Awards party as the freshman series led all other programs with five nominations for the 34th annual TCA Awards.

The Television Critics Association (TCA) revealed the nominees on Tuesday. Critics also showed love for FX’s “The Americans,” which ended its six-season run in May, handing out four nominations.

With 10 nominations, FX is the No. 1 network, followed by Netflix (nine) and NBC (seven). HBO, last year’s top-nominated network, split with BBC America with six apiece. Program of the Year will come down to “Atlanta,” “Killing Eve,” “The Americans,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Good Place,” and “This Is Us.”

‘Fraiser’ Alum Jane Leeves Joins Fox’s ‘The Resident’ Season 2 as Series Regular
Jane Leeves has a new series regular gig. The “Hot in Cleveland” and “Frasier” alum has been added to the full-time cast of the upcoming second season of Fox’s medical drama “The Resident.”

Leeves will join returning Season 1 series regulars Matt Czuchry, Manish Dayal, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp and Shaunette Renée Wilson, as well as Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Glenn Morshower, who were promoted for recurring to regulars for the sophomore year.

Leeves will play Dr. Kitt Voss, a star orthopedic surgeon and kick-ass new mentor for the hospital’s residents. Kitt attracts the roving eye of Dr. Bell, while butting heads with larger-than-life Cardio-thoracic surgeon Aj Austin (Warner).

Self-proclaimed nerds are uniting behind Yvette Nicole Brown as the fan favorite to replace Chris Hardwick as the new “Talking” host for AMC.

While the spot isn’t officially open yet — AMC is currently taking time to “assess the situation” — the network has suspended “Talking With Chris Hardwick” and the host will not moderate panels at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego next month.

Hardwick also hosts a handful of after-shows, including “Talking Dead” and “Talking Preacher,” among others following popular AMC mainstays.

Netflix is going behind bars. The streamer has ordered a new series of “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons,” the factual series that looks inside notorious jails.

The Svod service acquired the earlier version of the show, which was commissioned for Viacom’s Channel 5 in the U.K. It then started talking to the producers of the series, London-based Emporium, about how to work up new episodes as a global original for the Netflix audience.

A new presenter, Raphael Rowe, has been added. He served 12 years in a high-security prison in the U.K. for a murder he did not commit.
